The Butcher Jones Hiking Trailhead
The Butcher Jones Hiking Trailhead is located in the heart of Wyoming’s Absaroka-Beartooth Wilderness. The trailhead features a parking area and a sign marking the beginning of the hike. From the parking area, hikers will head north on a well-maintained trail for 3.2 miles to an intersection with the Mountain Loop Trail.
Here, hikers can choose to stay on the loop trail or continue north on the Butcher Jones Hiking Trail which leads to two unnamed peaks at 12,740 feet and 13,100 feet. The final destination of this 8.2 mile hike is an observation platform atop13,100 feet summit which offers spectacular views of Mount Washburn and Absaroka-Beartooth Wilderness Area in all directions.
